
Greg Gatien is the Head of Jazz Studies and Chair of the Performance Program at Brandon University. He has been coming to the Red Lodge Music Festival since 2004. His teachers have included Bob Brookmeyer, Ramon Ricker, and Jerry Bergonzi. Well-established in Western Canada, Greg has played with the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, is a featured member and lead alto saxophonist of the Winnipeg Jazz Orchestra, and freelances regularly throughout the region. Some recent performing highlights include collaborating with longtime Red Lodge Composer-in-Residence John Harmon at the Fox Jazz Festival in September, 2010 and an ‘All-Gershwin’ concert with colleagues Michael Cain and Eric Platz. Greg is also an active educator, having recently directed the British Columbia Honor Jazz Ensemble, and maintains a busy schedule as a clinician and adjudicator. In his spare time, Greg enjoys attending poetry readings.
